Maria Alves da Silva is an MST activist and resident of the Irmã Alberta Land Commune, a landless settlement located on the banks of the Anhanguera highway, km 28, in the Perus/Morro Doce region. Maria is currently a rural producer, educator, post-graduate from USP in education and agroecology, working in the MST's Production and Mass Front sectors in Greater São Paulo and her daughter, Silvana Bezerra da Silva is a journalist, teacher and MST activist, also a resident of the Irmã Alberta Land Commune, and coordinates the Movement's communication sector in Greater São Paulo. She specializes in Rural Education at UFSCAR and is studying for a master's degree in Education at Unicamp. She is researching the experience of the Unidos da Lona Preta Samba School as a political-pedagogical potential in the militant formation of the Landless Movement. They are hungry for social justice, freedom, the right to exist and quality education.
