Contact improvisation and TaiChiChuan

The proposal is to recognize some common points between these two body practices, TaiChiChuan and contact improvisation. What matters is researching body movement and training listening skills for improvisation.
The experience of tasting the ancient training of TaiChiChuan gives us the chance to perceive with a greater degree of readiness the construction of a solid and calm foundation, lowering expectations about how we move in contact dance.

First Compass, Tânia Murakami.

9:30 to 10:50

We will do vital energy training through Taoist TaiChiChuan practices where the opposites of movement/non-movement, movement/serenity, visible/invisible, yin and yang complement each other, generating a Unity. And with his Taoist outlook and reflections, he will mention some basic points that can help with Contact Improvisation.

Second Compass, Mariana Taques

11:10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

At this point in the meeting we will focus on the duality between falling and loading (weight exchange); dense weight and light weight; the entry and exit of the contact relationship involving bone alignments and muscular direction. The idea is to unravel some of the choreographies used in contact improvisation and to take on the choreographic thinking that insists on holding back in the imaginary and in the practice of contact improvisation dance.

Contact improvisation:

It can be a form of contemporary dance where the anchors are set in the exercise of autonomy, the appreciation of simple movements and the integration of the body in dialogue with the internal and external environment.
