On Sunday, August 31st, we'll be listening to the album “Vissungos - Dos Cantos para as Cordas” by guitarist Felipe Mancini.
The result of intense research into the Vissungos and the roots of Afro-mining music, the album features 12 instrumental tracks that bring the melodies of the Vissungos - chants sung as a form of resistance by enslaved blacks in Minas Gerais - to the Brazilian guitar repertoire. This is the first time that the melodies of the Vissungos have been brought to instrumental music.
As well as Felipe's guitar, viola and lute, the album features Sérgio Pererê, Richard Neves, Guarda de Moçambique de Ouro Preto and percussionists Okan Kayma, ivanbatucada and Júlio de Ayrá. The work is mixed and mastered by Iran Ribas, who will technically pilot the audition in Veredas Estúdio at Condô Cultural.
After the audition, we'll have a chat with Felipe and Iran, to talk a little about the process of creating the album.
