Cleiri Cardoso

Visual artist and teacher. I arrived at the cultural condominium in May 2022 attracted by the cultural/social/environmental activities that the space houses and proposes. It's a place for socializing, for exercising collectivity, where it's also possible to work on personal projects with peace of mind. The room I occupy at Condò is my studio, where I develop my work, teach and monitor projects in the field of printmaking. My work takes place mainly in the field of the printed image, establishing connections with photography and video. I talk about the technologies of the image, the nature of the means of reproducing images in their singularities and contrasts. Repetition and seriality are two important axes that constitute the structural logic of most of the works. The interrelationship between nature and civilization is the subject that permeates my entire production. The ways in which spaces are occupied, the interference of human actions in landscape configurations, the experience of the body (human-woman) in the landscape and the relationship of this body with other living beings. I relate to the work as a place of elaboration. A place where and through which I position myself as a social being. My intention is to carry out a poetic, politically charged activity that includes an intimacy with the processes involved. The courses and guidance I offer cover various graphic processes, including relief engraving (woodcut, linocut and stamp), metal engraving, photogravure, gumprint, cologravure and monotype. I've been studying and making prints for over twenty years. I have a connection with more traditional processes as well as more alternative and experimental media. In my studio, I research and apply ways to reduce toxicity in printmaking and to practices that are less polluting to the body and the environment.
